The family of a ‘devoted family man’ who died in a horrific car crash have spoken of their anguish after his death and paid tribute to him saying he had a ‘heart of gold’.
41-year-old Father-of-three Mohammed Shakeel was involved in a car crash in his white Peugeot with a grey Kia Ceed on a country lane in Birmingham on November 4, and was taken to hospital with serious injuries along with three others, including a five-year-old boy.
Shakeel and the five-year-old boy sadly passed away a short time later.
Two others were also injured in the collision including Mohammed’s teenage son, Sohail.
18-year-old Sohail suffered serious injuries and was left brain damaged and is unable to walk.
The family decided to delay their tribute to Shakeel until after Sohail was well enough to receive news of his father’s death.
Usman Ahmed, Shakeel’s son, 16, said: “My father had a heart of gold and taught me that life is to be lived in kind and caring means. He was the greatest father a child could ask for. He worked very hard to ensure he provided for our needs and more.
“I love and miss my father very much, I wish he could have witnessed me and my two siblings achieve our dreams and progress into adulthood.”
A statement from the family read: “We are a family lost in grief on an unprecedented scale; there are no words to define the loss and devastation caused on the fourth of November 2017; our world was fragmented in an imaginable way.
“Our beloved Shakeel was torn away from his devastated family in such tragic terms.
“Shakeel was a devoted family man who has been taken away from his family and friends too soon. Our hearts will never recover from the anguish and hurt we are suffering.
“No family should have to suffer the anguish and torment we are suffering everyday of our lives.”
After the collision, Shakeel’s son Sohail spent two weeks in critical care recovering from ‘horrifying injuries’.
His family added: “He has a long road of recovery ahead of him and it has been difficult, but we had to conceal the passing of his cherished father from him for five weeks after the accident to allow him to recover and be well enough to accept this trauma.
“Sohail has been left absolutely devastated after learning that his father did not survive the accident.
“Over the coming weeks and months we as a family will somehow learn to rebuild our lives without our beloved Shakeel and help our darling Sohail reconstruct his life.
“He was deeply loved by everyone he encountered. His charisma and beautiful nature has embedded a footprint in our hearts that will forever be cherished. He was full of life and always smiling. Shakeel went above and beyond to help any individual in need; he devoted his life to his wife, children, and family.”
Two others involved in the collision, including a 35-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, were taken to hospital with minor injuries, a nine-week-old baby was thankfully uninjured after the collision.
The family thanked the emergency services and witnesses for their hard work. They said: “We would like to thank the remarkable response teams who worked very hard at the scene of the accident, and at the hospital.
